Kick Up Your Good Karma

Do you believe in karma? I don't know about you guys, but I sure do. I believe that whatever we do, whether it's good or bad, will somehow or rather come back in ways that we would never expect of.

When you do something nice for others, everyone's a winner! Making someone's day and feeling good in the process is fantastic. Not only that; research shows it increases your overall happiness factor. According to psychologist Dr. Adnan Omar, helping others completes our sense of being - the sense of becoming a complete, wholesome human.

" It's psychologically gratifying," adds Dr. Omar. " From a purely biological point of view, helping others increases our serotonin, the 'happy' juice in our brain. Many doctors recommend anti-depressant medication for severely depressed patients because it boosts production of serotonin in the brain."

In other words, helping others is a healthy way to increase this 'natural' high, which in turn makes us feel blissful.

You can kick off your karma give-aways through different ways.

                                     WITH FAMILY 




Give your folks a break by offering to do the dishes, mow the lawn or cook dinner. It feels better to do a chore when you want to do it rather than being nagged.


Buy your mum some flowers, put them in a vase where she can see them and include a card that says 
"Just because I love you." It will brighten up her day - and yours, too!


If your parents or siblings had a bad day and want to complain about it, lend your ears. Offer them a supportive hug and a shoulder to lean on. Trust me, this helps a LOT!

                                      WITH FRIENDS


If your friend did something really cool and creative ( like write a poem ), compliment her on her work. She won't be able to wipe the smile off her face - or yours!


Offer your pal M&M's or ice-creams when she's blue. If she's unwell, give her a warm cup of tea ( or something soothing ) to make her feel better. She'll never forget this act of kindness.


If you've been kinda busy and haven't seen your BFF in a while, write her a little note telling her how much you miss her. Leave it on her desk, or in her locker or mailbox.

                                    WITH STRANGERS


Give up your seat on the bus or LRT to the elderly or pregnant. The big smile you'll get in return will definitely make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!


When you are in line at the movies, pay for the next person in line. On the road, pay the toll for the car behind you. These spontaneous acts will make someone's day!

Opening doors, helping people cross the road and carrying their groceries are little things that seem to have been forgotten. Rediscover these little pleasures!


               Like gravity, karma is so basic we often don't even notice it.
